In times of natural disaster or war, the issue of housing is particularly acute, so a targeted housing policy of the government is one of the factors of successful reconstruction and preservation of human capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, Russia has destroyed more than $54 billion worth of Ukrainian homes and displaced 5 million people within the country alone. The issue of housing for people who have nowhere to return to needs to be addressed now, despite the ongoing war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this document, we have collected eight stories of housing in countries that have experienced severe destruction. The strategies and approaches described cannot be transferred to Ukraine without further study, but the trends and failures identified in these cases may be useful in planning for reconstruction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
