Vietnam lived in a state of war for a quarter of the twentieth century, almost all major cities were destroyed, and the amount of chemicals used during the war led to an economic catastrophe in the country. As a result of this war, such concepts as “ecocide” and “Vietnam syndrome” appeared in the world. To this day, the country is still under communist rule, but in economic terms it tends to be capitalist. The development of market relations and cheap labor have made Vietnam attractive as a location for large technology companies, and have made the country a leader among exporters of many agricultural products.
