Ukraine and the European Green Deal

The third quarter of 2023 was marked by the continuation of reforms related to the EGD implementation at the EU level, as well as some intensification in the implementation of relevant changes to Ukrainian legislation. In particular, during the reporting period, a number of measures were taken to strengthen the EU’s ambitions to decarbonize the energy sector and improve energy efficiency,
in line with the previous objectives of the REPowerEU plan.

Despite some political reshuffling at the European Commission level and active debates between institutions, the EU also managed to make progress in adopting legislation on environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources. The EU was equally active in establishing international cooperation with a number of countries on the transition to carbon neutrality. The intensification of the European integration process has also significantly stimulated the intensification of reforms in Ukraine, in particular in the areas of renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and waste management.
