The reconstruction of Ukraine will require not only the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure that
existed before the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion. To a greater extent, it is a question
of how to modernize, as well as improve the level of quality and safety.
Railway transport is one of the most important segments of the country’s infrastructure, which provides the lion’s share of freight turnover (60–75%). It is also one of the most reliable modes of transport for passenger transportation: tens of millions of people use it every year.
The experience of overcoming the railway transport crisis in different countries can help develop
an effective strategy for reforming the railway transport of Ukraine and create an efficient and modern railway that meets the requirements of EU legislation.
