Cyprus gained its independence in 1960, but since then the issue of ethnic tensions between the island’s Turks and Greeks has been gaining momentum. Eventually, the confrontation culminated in the 1974 Cyprus conflict, which is now considered frozen. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, unrecognized by anyone but Turkey, occupies more than a third of the island, with the rest being administered by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus. The material provides information about the practices of resolving the Cyprus conflict, its current state, and how the island, which is actually divided into two parts, lives.
