Research on the main trends in civil society in Ukraine shows that over the period since Ukraine gained independence, Ukrainian civil society has acquired a new quality. The main trends in its development, as practice shows, continued in 2021, as discussed below.
Civil society organizations have significantly increased their institutional sustainability and capacity. In the thirty years since Ukraine gained independence, CSOs in Ukraine have come a long way in their formation and development: from initiative groups of citizens to sustainable institutions. Today, CSOs are able to adapt and respond to any crisis, develop cross-sectoral cooperation with the government and business, engage the general public, create a new quality of social services and drive important social innovations. To a large extent, the high level of institutional capacity of CSOs was facilitated by the state’s targeted policy of supporting the development of civil society.
